CYTOTECT® BIOTEST BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Cytotect® Biotest is a world-leading hyperimmunoglobulin for treating human cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections and the virus represents a major viral pathogen in immunocompromised patients, especially in transplant recipients.
The combination of Cytotect®Biotest with virostatic drugs such as ganciclovir in the prophylaxis of CMV infections has shown improved outcome compared to prophylaxis with either agent alone 1, 2.
Unlike virostatic drugs, Cytotect®Biotest is not associated with nephrotoxic and neutropenic side effects, and no CMV immunoglobulin-resistant diseases have been reported. Additionally, Cytotect®Biotest contains elevated titers of antibodies against Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), so as a favorable side effect, Cytotect®Biotect may also have a prophylactic role against EBV infections.
In summary, Cytotect®Biotest, in combination with virostatic drugs, may be more effective in controlling CMV infections than virostatic drugs alone.
